Google Translate API will be shut off completely on 01.12
Jun 3, 2011 5:36 pm by TimVen
Hello! Some information from http://code.google.com/p/jquery-translate/ "...Since the Google Translate API will be shut off completely on December 1, 2011 this plugin will use the Microsoft Translator service..." So the question is: Will GTranslate still work after 01.12.2011 ? :( Best regards, TimVen

Of course it will work. P.S. I think Google is going to offer a paid version of Translation service.

Google Drops Translation API?
Jun 6, 2011 1:38 pm by miamiman
Hello Edvard, I am sure you are aware of this. http://www.searchenginejournal.com/goog ... ate/30198/ http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-200688 ... d-version/ Having recently purchased ~ 12 gtranslate pro licenses, I am wondering if that was a premature decision as Google is making changes? Do you have an official position re: Gtranslate Pro and Google's Translation API. Thanks,

I have just announced new v3.14159 which supports Bing Translator along with Google Translate. After Dec 1 it will seamlessly migrate to Bing Translator. You just need to get a Bing Translator API key from http://www.bing.com/developers/createapp.aspx and insert it into config.php file. If you turn on the USE_BING_TRANSLATOR option now, it will use Bing from now, otherwise it will start using Bing after Dec 1.

Hey, if the Translate API goes away, is that why Bing was added? http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/W ... 63a7&hl=en

i have installed the ioncube to use GTRANSLATE with my PHP version, BUT i can NOT install SOAP, which is NEEDED for gtranslate using BING. My question is: there will be a way to use BING without installing SOAP? There will be SOAP installation service for the ones that cant do this automatically (i am on DREAMHOST) IS it possible o use BING without isntalling SOAP?

SOAP installation service can be done by your hosting provider. There are some other ways to use Bing without SOAP, but it is not implemented currently.

Hi, I just saw (http://code.google.com/apis/language/tr ... rview.html) that the Google Translate API will be officially shut off as of 12/1/2011. I'm not exactly sure how reliant GTranslate is on the API, but what impact will this have on GTranslate? Thanks, Ari

See http://googlecode.blogspot.com/2011/08/ ... e-api.html Google launched the indefinite paid API version this week meaning that if you enable billing, the service will still work for you after 1 December when the free service is disabled. Translation costs $20 per million (M) characters of text translated (or approximately $0.05/page, assuming 500 words/page).

Thanks for the info! I think that it should be acceptable for many clients. You can just disable the languages you are not interested in to save traffic. P.S. We always rely on "free" services like Google search, etc...

No, you will continue to use it as is. Free version users will need to keep it up to date.
