Google Translate consistently gives "Network Error" on iPhon

Google Translate consistently gives me a "Network Error":
- I'm using Google Translate (version 5.6.56010) for French, on my iPhone SE.
- I click on the microphone icon.
- I can dictate in either English or French, and everything works fine.
- After several dictations, the app stops hearing me, then gives a pop-up window error message of "Network Error" with other text.
- From then on, I get the error message each time I try to dictate.
- I'm doing this in my home, with a reliable high-speed wi-fi connection. All the other apps on my iPhone have no trouble finding my network connection.
This is very frustrating, and I'd appreciate any suggestions about how I can fix the situation. Thanks!
