I am trying out the free version for joomla 1.6. I find that I must click the translation bar for each page I visit. Is it correct? If I want it be automatically translated to the language I choose at the first time, what should i do ? Thank.

If you use Google default method, then yes. But you can try also On Fly and Redirect methods. Read the translate method option description and choose which is best for you.
