Installation directions for GTranslate Pro

I am supposed to install GTranslate Pro for a customer on Joomla 1.5. I've installed mod_gtranslate1.5.x.30.zip and gtranslate_customerdomain.com. mod_rewrite is enabled, as are SEF URLs. robots.txt and sitemap.txt are adjusted. The Ioncube loader is available. GTranslate free activates fine and is configured to redirect and use Pro. GTranslate Pro is enabled, too, but unfortunately http://customerdomain.com/es/ and such lead to a 404.
I do not have any further instructions, but have people in this forum seen talking about a gtranslate folder - do I have to create that? - and .htaccess adjustments. Am I missing any steps? Where can those instructions be found?
Thanks!

Hi,
If you installed the GTranslate Pro joomla plugin (plg_gtranslate.zip) version you do not need to create any folder.
Please check your settings. You can find the instructions here: https://gtranslate.io/docs/57-gtranslat ... umentation

I have followed the instructions (again):
-ionCube, Curl, JSON and SOAP extensions are enabled.
-mod_rewrite is enabled (Apache and Joomla configuration) and SEF URLs, too. .htaccess exists.
-plg_gtranslate.zip is installed.
-GTranslate system plugin is enabled
-Site language is configured
-Permissions for plugins/system/gtranslate/cache are recursively set to 777
-robots.txt and sitemap.txt have been created (but are probably irrelevant to this problem)
Manually navigating to e.g. http://www.customerdomain.com/es/ gives a 404. I've tried moving the plugin to the top of the plugins with no luck.
I've also installed GTranslate Free and set it to operate with Pro and use redirection mode. This seems to redirect fine, but still gives a 404. I've disabled it again for now.
One possible issue that I can think of: The site is at http://www.domain.com, but the plugin is in gtranslate_domain.com.zip (no www). I do not know whether the customer registered GTranslate Pro for http://www.domain.com or domain.com or if that matters at all. Could this be a problem?
If you need additional data I would prefer to exchange that in private.
Thanks in advance!
Additional information: license.dat ist still empty. ionCube Loader is installed:

Hi,
If you have installed SH404SEf please try to add this lines to shsef.php file.
// fix for gtranslate
$uri =& JURI::getInstance();
$router =& $mainframe->getRouter();
plgSystemGTranslate::parseGTranslate($router, $uri);
If you can send FTP access and backend admin username/password I'll check the settings.

Hi,
I've added the following code to /html/joomla/plugins/system/shsef.php
// fix for gtranslate
$uri =& JURI::getInstance();
$router =& $mainframe->getRouter();
plgSystemGTranslate::parseGTranslate($router, $uri);
// sh404sef fix
$session = & JFactory::getSession();
$lang = $session->get('glang');
$_SERVER['REQUEST_URI'] = str_replace('/'.$lang.'/', '/', $_SERVER['REQUEST_URI']);

Unfortunately this doesn't help. I've previously added the fix accidentally to components/com_sh404sef/sh404sef.php (disabled now) with the same effect as now: The translation is not working correctly.
I've also disabled the GTranslate Free plugin because the other languages should not be accessible while this is not working.
http://www.domain.com/es/ mostly works; sometimes loads incompletely with elements missing.
http://www.domain.com/fr/ sometimes spanish, sometimes german...?
http://www.domain.com/en/ no translation at all.
Any ideas? I will try the non-Joomla general version if the Joomla 1.5 plugin will not work. If that does not work I will have to dismiss GTranslate as a viable solution.
Thanks for your help!

I've disabled the joomla plugin version and installed the General. Please check.

The character set seems to be broken for non-ASCII characters.
The spanish translation (/es/) is half spanish, half german.
French (/fr/) is completely german.
English (/en/) works now.
Somewhat different from before, but not really any better :-\
