After reading paragraph 4 of
gtranslate/troubleshooting-gtranslate-pro-t368.html#7
and removing and uploading again the "gtranslate" folder I still get this error

If you are sure that it is not a permission issue, then please consult with your hosting provider to find the error log for that issue.

What specific permissions should the folder have?

It depends on your host. Usually the default permission for folders is 755 and for files it is 644.
