Million of pages in cache 365 days
Aug 13, 2014 5:20 am by d.hingorani86
Hi there, We are using Gtranslate in Joomla 1.5 Cache folder now has 3 million files. How do I get old cache files to remove on its own For example I do not need them in system for 365 days. I would be happy to have cache for 100 days so I changed the value in plugin cache = 100, but this step did not remove files older than 100 days. I still have 3 million files. Thanks and Regards, Dinesh K. Hingorani

Here are the steps that can help you to reduce the number of the files in the cache. 1. You can keep all the .human files and clean the rest or part of the cache. 2. To reduce the number of files in the cache folder you can disable the languages you don't want from the language selector and remove from your sitemap.txt. 3. If you have dynamic texts (dynamic date-times, counters etc.) in your pages try to wrap them with class="notranslate". Above mentioned points have not provided a solution. I would like to have a quick understanding of following: 1.) When we change the value in plugin cache from 365 to 100, will the cache files older than 100 days delete on its own ? 2.) Millions of files, not practical to remove manually anymore. Please suggest how can I get rid of all cache files created in 2013 ? Thanks, Danish K. Hingorani

Hi, 1. It will not delete the files automatically after 100 days. Cache time is only for automatic translations. If the cache file is older than 100 days it will automatically re-translate. 2. If you want you can delete cache files manually.GTranslate will not delete them automatically. If you delete the translation cache it will start translating again. Please note that the website can be slow if it doesn't have some parts in the translation cache and it should to translate. We can also offer you to upgrade your Pro license to Enterprise and avoid such possible issues, since Enterprise version will be hosted on our cloud network and will not have such problems. Thanks!

WHat happens if the cache file name is 0a0a0c8aaa00ade50f74a3f0ca981ed7 and we delete the cache file. I understand it will start re-translating but I would like to know 1.) If the the re-translation of same text will go into same file name 0a0a0c8aaa00ade50f74a3f0ca981ed7 ? 2.) Will 0a0a0c8aaa00ade50f74a3f0ca981ed7 be re-created on its own. 3.) When a text is lookedup for translation is it a database table that points to 0a0a0c8aaa00ade50f74a3f0ca981ed7 ? 4.) A main important Question is, if we do not provide a Gtranslate API key then which service is used to translate text ? 5.) I had gtranslate since 1 year on Joomla 1.5 but Google API key field in plugin parameters has always been blank. What has been happening all this time ? I see GTranslate Pro works without API key, please explain how this works to get google to translate without an API Key ? 6.) Please provide us a latest update for Joomla 1.5 version. Please give us the working model of Gtranslate so that we can understand what we can do to make page load faster. Regards, DInesh K. Hingorani

I have just included Google API Key V2 in plugin parameters. I guess, it has limit of 2Million characters per day. Could this be configured to translate from Widget once 2M chars are exhausted ?

Hello, ok. Is it beneficial if I add API Key in Plugin Parameters ? Or Do I let Widget do the work ? I feel API translation will be faster. If I use API I wouldn't want widget to do the work. In fact 2 million char would be sufficient because translation stays in cache for 365 days. Also I the pro version I have is for Joomla 1.5. I got it from you on 18th April 2012 Its been a long time you'd have surely released an update Do I need an update to gtranslate ?

There is no benefit from using API key. You are using the latest version. Thanks!
